The National Alliance Political Parties on Wednesday rejected the suspension of their leader Kornelio Kon Ngu by disgruntled opposition members over the alleged violation of the code of conduct.

Richard Omwony Valent, the Secretary General for the National Alliance Political Parties, said the suspension of Kornelio Kon Ngu is unconstitutional.

“The individuals who signed the unconstitutional and the unprocedural letter, do not have a moral nor a legal authority to use the name of the National Alliance Political Parties as a political net to catch some political favors,” said Valent in a statement issued in Juba.

Valent revealed that the leadership of the National Alliance Political Parties is dismayed by unconstitutional move to evict Kornelio Kon Ngu from the chairmanship of the National Alliance Political Parties.

“Lastly the leadership formation made by the coup group is unprocedural and does not bear any legal authorization of our code of conduct and it is null and void,” said Valent.

On Tuesday a group of dissenting members of the National Alliance Political Parties wrote to Tut Gatluak, the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs informing to effect the changes in leadership of the opposition coalition.

“We the undersigned leadership of National Alliance Political Parties, here by formally announce the relief of Kornelio Kon Ngu from the position of Chairman of National Alliance Political Parties with immediate effect,” said a statement issued by the dissenting members of the coalition.

Kornelio Kon Ngu, the chairperson of National Alliance Political Parties on Tuesday suspended four political parties including Communist Party of South Sudan (CPSS), Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and South Sudan National Party (SSNP) from the coalition.

Kon is the leader of the National United Democratic Forum (NUDF) and also Deputy Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).

The National Alliance Political Parties is a coalition of 12 opposition parties, and those suspended by Kon are the ones that attempted to oust him from the top leadership of the coalition.
