"We Dare where others fear"
President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his First Vice President Riek Machar and other parties in the transitional unity government need to dialogue over elections.
We are four months away to the date of elections announced by the National Election Commission, and yet many critical issues necessary to guarantee free, fair and credible elections are not implemented.
The inter-party dialogue is critical in breaking the deadlock over elections. According to observation it is only the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) led by President Kiir that is crisscrossing the country to drum up support for elections.
The majority of citizens are in limbo over the elections which are scheduled for December 22nd 2024.
Clarity is needed by the top leadership to clear doubts over the electoral process, and this can be done with the support of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, African Union and the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
If the parties fail to reach amicable agreement on the elections, it’s better to extend the transition period and save this country from plunging into another political crisis.
Time is essence to clarify on this urgent matter, because postponing the decision on elections is to look for trouble.
