The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Goc held meeting on Tuesday with Pakistan Ambassador Atif Sharif Mian, where they discussed cooperation in capacity building, agriculture, education and health.
Goc appreciated the readiness of the Pakistan government to build diplomatic cooperation that promotes South Sudan’s national interest, particularly offering of scholarships to South Sudanese, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Juba.
It noted Goc elaborated the foreign policy of South Sudan and how it should be used to promote peace and establish partnerships with friendly countries that value the interests of the people of South Sudan.
Goc said that the government remains willing to support engagement with Pakistan.
For his part, Pakistan Ambassador Atif Sharif Mian congratulated Goc upon his appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Sharif expressed willingness of the Pakistani government to work with South Sudan on specific areas of cooperation such as agriculture, healthcare, education and defense cooperation.
He reiterated commitment and support to the South Sudan government by calling upon the international community to consider lifting the arms embargo imposed on the youngest nation following outbreak of conflict in December 2013.
Sharif said that lifting the arms embargo and asset freeze will help South Sudan to achieve peace and development for her citizens.
The envoy also emphasized Pakistan’s efforts to ensure that the capacity of South Sudanese diplomats is built, adding that as a friendly country they willing to support peace and prosperity of the South Sudanese people.
