Northern Bahr El Ghazel State has established committee to investigate the mysterious deaths of 13 people in Aweil East County between July and August this year.
Garang Zechariah Lual Thiep, the State Minister of Information and Communication said in a statement on Tuesday that a man and his wife and two children died on July 30, 2024 under mysterious circumstances in Aweil East, and more six people died in the church in Warawar of Aweil East County on August 14, 2024 followed by 3 other mysterious deaths at Aweil civil hospital on August 15.
Thiep revealed that over the last four days preliminary investigation were carried out by the State authorities in attempt to establish the cause of death, adding that the investigations were not conclusive.
“The minister of health has issued ministerial order forming a committee to carry out investigation and report back their findings within a week, the committee includes two medical personnel to come out with inclusive report including theories of food poisoning among others,” said Thiep.
He noted that preliminary investigations done by medical personnel have ruled out non-communicable diseases as the cause of deaths, adding people who came into contact with the deceased persons did not show any signs and symptoms related to any viral disease.
“The rapid response team from the ministry of health was dispatched immediately to Aweil East County, where they were involved in the transportation of the six corpses from Warawar to Adut-Adhot for burial,” said Thiep.
