Leaders pay tribute to fallen veteran general

The Vice President for Economic Cluster, James Wani Igga has paid tribute to fallen veteran army general and diplomat, Ambassador Bior Ajang Duot who succumbed to cardiac arrest on August 13, 2024 at his residence in Juba.

“We regret the sudden death of Gen.Bior Ajang, he was a good leader, in addition, he was a son of a paramount chief, Ajang Bior Duot who was wise and just in giving court verdicts, Bior has made a great contribution,” said Igga on Saturday during the funeral prayers held at Simba Grounds in Juba.

Lt.Gen Matthew Mathiang-Magoordit, the Chairman of Luacjang Community Development Association, said the late Ajang will be dearly missed by his comrades and the entire nation.

“Ambassador Gen. Bior Ajang Duot aka Bior-Aswad was a compassionate family man, a memorable South Sudanese leader but above all, he was an SPLA veteran who stood his ground during the liberation struggle,” said Magoordit.

Samuel Puol Chol, the SPLM Secretary for Information in Jonglei State said Gen.Bior has left an indelible mark in the history of South Sudan.

Chol noted that the late championed justice and equality, adding that his unwavering courage and sacrifice paved the way for the freedom many South Sudanese are enjoying today.

Ajang once served as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs and also in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The late started school at Kongor Primary school in 1959, before joining Bor intermediate school in 1965, and Malakal Institute of education in 1972. Ajang graduated with masters’ degree in public administration from the University of Fort Hare.

Ajang prior to his death was in his final year pursuing PHD in strategic security at the National American University.

 He was born on January 1, 1950 in the then Kongor district, currently Twic East County of Jonglei State.

Ajang who was the Chairperson of Twic East community is survived with 5 sons and two daughters.

 He was laid to rest on Wednesday, August 20, 2024 at the Heroes cemetery in the Jebel suburb in Juba.
