Simmering tensions remains high in two counties of Jonglei State following the recent deadly cattle raid in Ayod County by armed youth from neighboring Uror County.

Mary Nyualang, the MP representing Ayod County in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) on the SPLM party, said on Tuesday on the floor of parliament that tensions between the communities is high in the wake of last week’s killing of a woman and her three-month-old baby girl.

She said that the attackers from Uror County also abducted a baby and carted away 41 heads of cattle in Ayod County.

“Last week, a group of thieves attacked my own payam. They took 41 cows. They killed a woman and her three month old baby,” said Nyualang.

“The commissioner and his team followed them until they recovered part of the cattle, but the woman is already dead and the child of three months is dead,” she added.

Nyualang disclosed asked her colleagues representing Uror County to take the responsibility to prevent such incidents from recurring.

She explained that the Commissioner of Ayod County together with security forces managed to recover some of the stolen cattle, adding that the majority of the animals are still missing.

“We have done our part as the people of Ayod County, my own Payam that no one should go for revenge but I need the other side also to put hands together with me so that we can be able to solve the situation,” said Nyualang.
