The Executive Director for Resilience Organization, Kevin Abalo has asked the state and national government to carry out investigation on new traits of mosquito bites that causing body swelling in Juba’s suburb of Tongpiny and Gumbo.
“As of August 31, 2024, a community and public concern was raised over suspicious presence of a trait of mosquitoes in Tongpiny and Gumbo, as such evidence based approach and awareness from related department maybe of importance,” said Abalo in a statement issued on Saturday in Juba.
Abalo disclosed that the complaints registered by her team from the community in Gumbo called for involvement of emergency response team, entomologist, parasitologists and public health experts.
She said that tailoring specific messages discarding the myth surrounding the occurrence is needed to ensure relevant and up to date information as well as building trust with the related health institutions.
“The unverified claim anticipate that a certain mosquito trait once bite you will itch and then develop swelling at the spot of the bite, tailoring specific messages and citing relevance and up to date information is important,” Abalo said.
She revealed that Resilience Organization which is contracted by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is currently running health promotion activities and advocacy campaign in Juba.
