The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Joseph Malek Arop, on Monday tabled the Audit Chamber Act 2011, Amendment Bill 2024 and Cybercrimes and Computer Misuse Bill 2024 in before the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA).
The two bills were presented in their first reading during an ordinary sitting chaired by Dr. Jemma Nunu Kumba, Speaker of the TNLA.
Joseph Malek Arop, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs said the Audit Chamber Bill provides for establishment and governance of the National Audit Chamber.
“The purpose of this amendment bill is to provide for establishment and governance of the National Audit Chamber, the appointment of the Auditor General, Deputy Auditor General, and Auditors, corporate staff and establishment of the National Audit Chamber Advisory Committee, and core functions of the Audit Chamber,” Malek said.
He added that bill also outlines procedures for auditing and reporting on accounts of government ministries, institutions, agencies, departments and corporations that receive government funds.
Malek disclosed that the Cybercrimes and Computer Misuse Bill 2024, aims to protect and prevent crimes committed through use of computer device, internet or any related activities.
For his part, Oliver Mori Benjamin, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Information and Communication, said the Speaker submitted the bills to the relevant committees for scrutiny, adding that they are expected to be present for debate within 14 days from now.
“The two items today on the agenda were the presentation of an amendment bill to the audit chamber requesting the removal of chapter 10 of this Act in the first reading stage,” Mori said.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit assented to the Cybercrimes and Computer Misuse provisional order on 7th May 2021.
