President Kiir invites Chinese investors to explore untapped investment opportunities

President Salva  Kiir Mayardit on Monday invited  Chinese companies and potential investors from Zhejiang Province to explore the untapped investment opportunities in South Sudan.

Kiir made these remarks during the first South Sudan- Zhejiang Economic, Investment, and Trade Forum where he highlighted the existence of vast untapped natural resources in South Sudan.

He said the event marks a decisive moment in strengthening social-economic ties between South Sudan and China.

Kiir also emphasized some potential sectors for collaboration, including mining, trade, fisheries, agriculture, tourism and transportation.

He advocated for the training of local cadres and the establishment of academic scholarships to foster deeper people-to-people connections or exchanges.

The leaders from Zhejiang Province expressed their appreciation for President Kiir’s timely visit, attaching it as a significant gesture of friendship between the two nations, under the leadership and vision of both President Kiir and President Xi Jinping.

President Kiir is among the African heads of state and government who have arrived in Beijing ahead of the three -day Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit that starts Wednesday.

 The meeting presents an opportunity for Africa to renew and strengthen its partnership with China.

The Summit will bring together Chinese and African leaders to discuss China-Africa cooperation, which will open up more splendid prospects for China-Africa relations.

The last FOCAC Summit to be held in the Chinese capital was in 2018. This year’s forum is themed “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”
