Sudan beats Niger 1-0 in 2025 AFCON qualifiers

Sudan beat Niger 1-0 in Wednesday’s 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

James Kwesi Appiah, the coach of the Sudanese national football team expressed his happiness after a cagey game in which his team triumphed over it’s resolute and stubborn rivals.

“We started very well getting to end of the first half the game was not as I expected, but the second half we started strong to make sure we get the victory for Sudan and South Sudan,” Appiah said during the post-match press conference at the Juba Olympic Stadium.

Appiah appreciated the support from the home crowd, adding that Sudan and South Sudan are the same people due to the historical connection they share.

“I am really happy that any time we come here, everybody puts his support behind the team,” he said.

Appiah said that his team is trying it’s best to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament to be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.

Ezzaki Badou, the coach of the Niger national football team congratulated the Sudanese national team, adding that they came up against strong opponent.

He said the plan now is to quickly recover the physical fitness of his players before the next game against Ghana on September 9, 2024, while Sudan will visit Angola in the other match in Group F.
