President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday returned home from official working visit to the People’s Republic of China where he attended the 9th Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Kiir and his delegation last week engaged several groups and individuals, including his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in cooperation in several infrastructure and development projects.
During his three- day visit to China, Kiir held talks with senior officials of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) that include building a new refinery and alternative oil pipeline linking to Djibouti via Ethiopia to enhance export capabilities of expanding extraction in Blocks 3 and 7.
He also held a series of high-level engagements with some African leaders, which focused on mutually beneficial cooperation and development.
Kiir was received on arrival at Juba International Airport by the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other high-ranking government officials.
The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Amb. Chol Mawut Ajongo, said the 2024 Forum on China Africa Cooperation Summit upgraded the bilateral ties between South Sudan and China.
“It is a strategic partnership, advancing modernization and building a community with a shared future,” Mawut said.
For his part, President Xi Jinping on Thursday announced a 10-point Partnership Action Plan for Africa for the next three years, which will provide Africa with $50 billion (Sh6.5 trillion) of financial support.
The action plan will includes modernization of industries, agriculture, trade, investment, training, and infrastructure.
Others are access for Africa’s goods to the Chinese market, 30 infrastructure connectivity projects and development cooperation comprising 1,000 livelihood projects.
