"We Dare where others fear"
South Sudanese women lag behind their peers in the region in terms of political representation. This includes corporate governance.
The planned elections if they take place in December, this year should see more women competing for electoral offices with their male counterparts.
This would demonstrate progress in terms of gender equality in leadership, and also could go a long way in realizing sustainable peace and security stability in the country.
Leaving women to the kitchen is very retrogressive in terms of economic development.
The government should also consider affirmative action for women for example by demarcating constituencies for women representatives per State or administrative areas.
When women participate in leadership they tend to mediate tensions and also contribute to sensitive approaches to governance.
It’s time to empower women to fully participate in any election in the country, and this should be misconstrued for mere votes.
