The influx of cattle keepers from neighboring States into Juba County of Central Equatoria State has unsettled local farmers, who are urging the government to intervene to regulate movement of cattle keepers in the State.
Kenyi Daniel, the Executive Chief of Juba Na Bari A Court said on Saturday that the random movement of cattle is disrupting the work of local farmers.
“We need development in our country, there is hunger and cows are moving around destroying farms, we need government to support so that farmers can produce food, we can farm more than 20 feddans,” said Daniel during the rosary prayers in Luri payam.
Stephen Kamilo, head of security at Nyarjua area of Juba County said people in Luri appreciate President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Governor of Central Equatoria State Augustino Jadala Wani for improving security in the area.
“The communities are staying in harmony but we have challenges of cattle influx in Nyarjua, we call on both the State and central government to address the issue of cattle movement,” said Robert Lokudu Santo, the Boma Administrator of Juba Na Bari.
He added that the government should intervene to allow famers to produce food to feed the growing population in Nyarjua.
President Salva Kiir in the past ordered cattle keepers from Jonglei State and other areas to vacate farm land in Central Equatoria State following conflicts with the local population.
