President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al Burhan discussed the resumption of oil exports through Sudan, following four months of work on the pipeline which ruptured in early February this year.

In a statement posted on Facebook page of the Presidential Press Unit, Ramadan Abdalla Mohammed Goc, the Minbister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Sudanese engineers have accomplished the necessary technical preparations for the resumption of oil production.

He said that engineers from South Sudan are expected to visit Sudan in the coming weeks to familiarize themselves with the readiness of the facilities so as to jump-start oil production.

For his part, President Kiir reaffirmed his government’s dedication to restoring peace and stability in Sudan.

Gen. Al-Burhan recognized President Kiir’s commitment to peace and stability and expressed appreciation for his efforts towards regional initiatives aimed at consolidating stability and economic growth between the two sisterly nations.

Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Monday arrived in Juba for bilateral discussions with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Oil -dependent south Sudan heavily depends on Sudan, its northern neighbor, to transport oil to international markets.

In March, the Sudanese government announced the suspension of South Sudan’s oil exports through Sudanese territories due to a fault in the transportation lines.

According to the Sudanese authorities, the fault was the result of a blockage in an underground pipeline situated at areas controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, north of Sudan’s White Nile State.
