Two female members of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) were attacked and humiliated on Monday at Customs Junction by Soldiers guarding Dr. John Garang Mausoleum as their car attempted to snake through it.
Oliver Mori Benjamin, Chairperson for the Information Committee told journalists that the legislators were ruthlessly attacked by the soldiers on their way to parliament.
“What I can assure you is that two members of parliament were assaulted today, as they tried to enter from the Custom roundabout through Dr. John Garang’s Mausoleum, taking a shortcut to reach the parliament,” said Mori after the parliamentary session.
He said the two MPs were accompanied by a female friend, adding that they are working to establish circumstances of the altercation before action is taken.
“We are taking up this matter even after the sitting, I was here with the Chairperson of the Security and Public Order,” said Mori.
He said that any assault on any individual irrespective of their status is taken seriously by parliament.
