Akon international airport has been spared from the recent heavy flooding in Warrap State, according to Bak Mayen Ring, the CEO of Wunkoc engineering and modern company.

 Ring clarified during a visit on Saturday to the airport that the runway is safe.

He said that that they created a hole to divert water along the runway.

Ring also added that Wunkoc engineering company is implementing this mega project at Akon International Airport with multi- national and international sub-contractors in order to set it up to international standard.

Eng.  Muluken Yirba, the deputy manager of loyal Construction and trading Company, a subcontractor, said that the flooded area shared on social media is very far from the runway.

He said that they have excavated both water channels away from the runway to facilitate the water flow to the seasonal swamps and river from the Eastern part of the airport.

John Kongor Thuou Deng, the senior public relations and corporate affairs officer of Wunkoc Engineering and Modern Company, said that Akon International Airport is safe from  the rain flooding.

 “Nevertheless, flooding is one of the natural disasters, should it hit the region some parts of the airport will be affected. It can’t completely destroy the good job done,” said Kongor.

He cautioned social media users to veer off from rumors on the runway being washed away, adding that their company is committed to it’s mission of completing the project on time.

The Wunkoc engineering and modern contractors company (WEMCO) is one of the competitive national companies assigned by the government to fully implement the construction of Akon International airport.

 The company was founded and registered by business man Bak Mayen Ring Deng alias Mayendit in 2007.

Wunkoc is constructing Akon International Airport which will connect Greater Bahr el Ghazal region, Abyei and Ruweng Administrative Area as well as Unity State.

The contractors launched the project in March 2024.
