The parties to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement after recently extending the transition period for an addition two years need to get their act together to expedite the drafting of the permanent constitution.

The excuse of some of the villains, who pushed hard for another extension, was based on the delay in concluding the permanent constitution making process and other peace tasks.

It’s these very leaders who worked very hard behind the scenes to frustrate the peace implementation process, because some of them are after shielding their positions from possible rivals.

South Sudan needs a fresh start but also the next two years could be a false dawn, since the parties to the revitalized peace agreement are not for the interest of the people and country but rather their bellies.

In the recent editorial of this newspaper, we warned of growing frustration among the public which could tempt some to try unconstitutional means of changing government, if the politicians don’t listen to the feelings and mood of the population.

These next two years should not be squandered to justify another extension on flimsy reasons.

You can fool people once, twice but the third time you may not be lucky to get away with the reality in this country.
