Government reiterates readiness to work with European Union

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,  Amb. Monday Semaya Kenneth Kumba on Wednesday assured Timo Olkkonen, Head of the European Union Delegation in South Sudan that they will continue to work together on many development issues.

The two leaders discussed the progress of the Nairobi Tumaini Peace Initiative as well as the situation in neighboring Sudan where fighting has of recent escalated between the Sudan Armed Force and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force, according to a statement on the Facebook page of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

It noted that Kumba highlighted the levels of cooperation between South Sudan and the European Union, describing it as satisfactory based on diplomatic ways of engaging with friendly countries.

He registered the good will of the European Union in many areas, and urged the latter to continue supporting South Sudan as the two embark on developmental cooperation. 

Ambassador Timo Olkkonen acknowledged the positive progress reached by political parties’ signatory to the 2018 Revitalize Peace Agreement to postpone elections.

He shared his developmental programs that are likely to be implemented, particularly in the agricultural sector.
