The United States Representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, has announced additional aid worth 32 million U.S. dollars for humanitarian assistance in South Sudan.
The U.S embassy in a statement issued on Thursday in Juba, said that the funding which will support refugees who fled conflict in neighboring Sudan brings the total of U.S assistance to $105 million in 2024.
It said the total U.S humanitarian assistance in South Sudan, including for South Sudanese people in need, was over $640 million during the same period.
The embassy urged the transitional government of national unity to contribute more financial resources to its humanitarian response.
It noted that when the government contributes it share of funds it helps reduce the costs and risks faced by those seeking to help the South Sudanese people.
