The German Ambassador in South Sudan, Christian Sedat on Thursday called for urgency on the part of the parties to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement to fully implement the agreement.
He said that the German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock, during her visit to South Sudan in late January highlighted the urgency to fully and swiftly implement the peace agreement through constructive dialogue.
Sedat was speaking during celebration of the 34th German National Day in Juba.
He reaffirmed German’s strong commitment and solidarity with the government and the people of South Sudan towards the successful completion of the political transition.
“The topics which were discussed in her (Baerbock) talks with the leadership of South Sudan remain relevant today. I would say even more so after the decision to once again extend the transitional period,” said Sedat.
Sedat pledged to support and complement the government’s efforts in addressing the humanitarian and social needs of its people, while noting that the prime responsibility to address the humanitarian and social needs is on the government of South Sudan.
“And it is in that context that we play our part in contributing to address the humanitarian needs. Very concretely at the moment, by providing additional funding in view of the impacts of the flooding situation,” he said.
For his part, Monday Semaya Kumba, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister thanked the German envoy for the tremendous support to South Sudan.
“Germany has done a lot to the people and to the government of South Sudan, and is still doing remarkable work, giving tremendous support through its developmental cooperation program especially in the field of rural water, development and agriculture, health and technical training,” said Semaya.
