The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ruben Madol Arol said on Wednesday that they are satisfied with the report from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on the human rights situation in the country.
“The United Nations Mission in South Sudan gave a very constructive report about the situation in the country, and we as well on behalf of the government gave oral statement in which we touched issues like extension of the transitional period, issues about mobile courts, military tribunal, special court dealing with intercommunal violence and gender based violence,” said Arol on arrival at Juba International Airport from Geneva where he attended the 57th Session of UN Human Rights Council.
Arol revealed that the Session of the Human Rights Council raised concerns about sections of the recently passed National Security Service Act.
He disclosed that South Sudan needs to be supported by the international community in terms of capacity building and technical assistance despite deep concerns raised at the Session over the third extension of the transitional period.
“The issue is that we have challenges in implementation, we have human rights situation but again the government is doing its best to consolidate peace and move towards addressing human rights issues,” said Arol.
