Government, Troika Ambassadors discuss economic cooperation

The Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater on Thursday agreed to promote economic cooperation and provision of financial assistance at a meeting with the Troika Ambassadors.

At the meeting with the western envoys, Ater outlined prevailing multiple shocks, including the conflict in Sudan, which resulted to the shutdown of oil production, influx of refugees and returnees and as well as the inconsistency in climatic condition, which frustrated the already dire economic situation, according to a statement issued by the Department of communication of the ministry.

 He thanked the Troika ambassadors for their countries continued support to South Sudan and assured the Troika about the government’s commitment to address the current pressing economic challenges hampering basic service delivery.

Ater also informed the Troika ambassadors about his planned mission to the upcoming International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank annual meeting in Washington DC, where he intends to seek the support of the Bretton Woods institutions in recouping the country’s economic situation.

The U.S Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael Adler called for implementation of the Public Financial Management reforms to ensure transparency and accountability in management of public funds.

He also emphasized his country’s historic stand with the people of South Sudan even before South Sudan’s independence.
