The Executive Director for Resilience Organization, Kevin Abalu has asked the transitional government of national unity to evacuate people from flood affected areas as well as those in flood- prone areas to safer places of abode.

“The Resilience Organization is requesting the transitional government of national unity to immediately evacuate particularly women and children in flood affected areas,” said Abalu on Monday in an interview in Juba.

Abalu disclosed that the humanitarian situation in the flood hit areas is increasingly worsening, adding that the government and partners need to provide urgent food assistance to the affected population.

“This situation is getting out of hand every day, yet South Sudan has enough empty virgin land that can take more than 13 million people.  Let’s stop land grabbing and live as one people for a better South Sudan,” she said.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Friday reported that ongoing flooding and intensified rainfall has since September affected the delivery of essential humanitarian supplies to some 500,000 people.

In July 2024, the cabinet approved 78 million U.S dollars under its emergency flood preparedness and response plan to mitigate the impact of floods on livelihoods and infrastructure across the country.
