"We Dare where others fear"

The South Sudan police spokesperson, Col. John Kassara Koang on Thursday said the general security situation in the country is relatively calm and stable, despite recent incidents along the Juba-Nimule road and the alleged killing of civilians in Wonduruba.
In an interview with The Dawn, Col. John Kassara Koang said on Thursday that the crime rate has dropped compared to previous years across the country.
“On 13 October 2024, at Gumbo Shirikat, a 17-year-old girl was stabbed and injured on her back using a knife by gangsters locally known as “Niggas” and the accused gangster managed to escape. The victim was referred to Juba Teaching Hospital for treatment. A case is opened at the Eastern Police Division, and the police are still searching for the accused gangster,” he said.
Kassara stated that on October 15, 2024, a patient,38, who had gone for treatment at a clinic in Jebel Yesua collapsed on his way home and passed on after he had received treatment for ulcers.
“The case of his death is not yet established by the police, and the dead body was transported to the Juba funeral home. A criminal case was opened at the Gudele police division; the suspect was arrested by the police, and the investigation is ongoing.
On 15 October 2024, a 35-year-old traffic police officer fell down and died on the spot at Mata-Yei, locally known as Facebook Road.
Kassara said that the cause of his death is not yet established by the police, and the dead body was transported to the Juba funeral home.
“The criminal case was opened under Section 59 of the Criminal Procedures Act 2008 at the central police division in Malakia, and the investigation is going on. On October 14, 2024, a 72-year-old man was shot dead by his 27-year-old son in a village called Jokruop under Mankien Payam of Mayom County, Unity State, due to his father’s witchcraft,” he said.
Kassara stated that a criminal case was initiated at the Mayom County Police Division, and the suspect was arrested by police.
According to John early this week, a 20-year-old man committed suicide using his own rifle along the road between Challamini and Kiyalla village under Kiyalla payam of Torit County.
Kassara said that the motive behind the incident is not yet established by the police, adding that a criminal case was initiated at the Torit County police division.
