Impact Health Organization (IHO) -a local NGO has pledged to offer 10,000 U.S dollars to the two best innovative ideas aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change on sexual and reproductive health.

Jolem Mwanje, the Executive Director of Impact Health Organization, said climate change poses significant risks particularly to young girls who face increased threats of early marriage, violence and disrupted access to essential health services.

“At the country level, we shall select two winners and each of the winners shall get a prize of 5000 dollars, we are trying to build network of innovators, and produce ideas that can be adopted by our country office to mitigate climate challenges,” said Mwanje during a press conference in Juba on Friday.

Mwanje said the engagement on climate change and sexual and reproductive health and rights, is aimed at raising awareness about innovative solutions developed by young innovators in South Sudan.

“We are proud to support the youth of South Sudan in developing innovative solutions that address climate change and create safer, more resilient communities, especially for young women,” said Mwanje.

The competition empowers young people to create innovative, gender-responsive solutions that build community resilience, as well as addressing critical issues related to climate change.

“This exciting opportunity provides a platform for South Sudanese youth to showcase their talent and contribute to climate action on a regional level. Empowering the next generation with the tools to combat these challenges is vital for the future of South Sudan,” said Mwanje.

On September 23, 2024, 16 teams of young innovators participated in intensive mentorship sessions organized by Scenius Hub.

The top two winning teams will represent South Sudan at a regional pitch competition in Kigali, Rwanda on November 7th, 2024, where they will compete with teams from Mozambique, Kenya, and Madagascar.
