The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, has congratulated Dr. Gedion Timothewos, upon his appointment as the new Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Goc said in a statement issued in Juba on Monday that the appointment of Timothewos will further elevate the strategic partnership between their two sisterly countries.
“The expertise and dedication of the new Minister will guide Ethiopia’s Foreign policy toward greater heights, fostering stability and advancing the interests of Ethiopia on the international stage,” it said.
Goc affirmed his determination to work closely on bilateral, regional and global issues of common interest with the new Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister.
He also said that Juba remains committed to deepening and expanding the strategic relations between the two countries.
Ethiopia and South Sudan have been enjoying strong bilateral relations.
Dr. Timothewos was appointed foreign minister on 18 October 2024 by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
His predecessor Taye Askesilassi became the new president of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia.
The parliament confirmed Askesilassi, as the head of state ten days ago replacing former president Sahle-work Zewde who concluded her term.
Timothewos, once served as Minister of Justice from 6 October 2021 until Hanna Arayaselassie succeeded his position in 2024.
He served also as Attorney General from 2 November 2021
He had served as faculty member at the Addis Ababa University School of Law.
He studied Law at the Addis Ababa University and at the Central European University.
