The Vice President for Economic Cluster, James Wani Igga, on Monday urged the East African Community (EAC) to support investments in micro, small and medium enterprises to spur industrialization in the trade bloc.

Wani emphasized during the opening of the EAC trade exhibition at Freedom Hall that trade cooperation can serve as the foundation for stronger political connections among EAC countries.

“These enterprises are the backbone of regional development and crucial for achieving inclusive progress,” said Wani.

He noted that trade fairs and exhibitions play critical role in providing businesses with opportunities to showcase their products and access new markets.

Wani reaffirmed South Sudan’s commitment to the EAC’s mission of facilitating free trade, investment, and movement across borders, adding that member states should support initiatives that foster economic stability.

He expressed optimism about the potential for deeper political integration by 2030, noting that Juba will continue to benefit from collaborative efforts toward a prosperous and integrated region.

Joseph Muom, the Minister of Trade stated that trade exhibitions play crucial role in fostering economic cooperation and enhancing socio-economic relations within the East African Community.

“It allows our local talents to shine and open doors for new market opportunities,” said Muom.

“By promoting unique innovation and skills development, we are laying the groundwork for economic growth and knowledge transfer,” Muom added.

He also said that the ongoing trade exhibition symbolizes a collective commitment to a more prosperous East African Community, driven by innovation and shared development.

“Let us take this opportunity to showcase the brilliance of our artists and entrepreneurs as we build a more resilient East Africa,” said Muom.

Founded in Arusha in 1999, the EAC trade exhibition aims to advance micro, small, and medium enterprises by bridging the technological divide and promoting regional innovation.

This year’s edition emphasizes the importance of unique innovations and skill development among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The theme of the event underscores the commitment of the East African Community to drive sustainable growth.

South Sudan, as the host nation, is eager to contribute to this initiative.
