The opposition United Sudan African Party (USAP) has dismissed it’s acting chairperson, Joseph Malek Arop, alongside the deputy and secretary of the party.

The dismissals were announced in a statement on Tuesday by John Lakuwa Soraba, the Central Equatoria State Chairperson of USAP party. The party said that it’s Secretary General, Joseph Ojukwu, will oversee party activities until the substantial chairperson is elected.

“Joseph Malek is no longer the acting leader of USAP,” it said, adding Joseph Malek Arop, failed to organize general convention for two months to steer the party leadership forward.

It alleged that Malek failed to unite the party cadres amid accusation of discrimination and corruption under his watch.

In light of these issues, the Central Executive Committee has appointed Joseph Ojukwu, Secretary General to oversee the upcoming extraordinary convention.

It noted OJukwu has been entrusted to maintain party cohesion and preparing elections to steer the party forward.

“USAP members both in Sudan and abroad are informed that a convention to elect new leadership will occur within 30 days,” it disclosed.

It added that state structures of the party will remain intact until elections are held.

Last year, the United Sudan African Party shut down its office in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State after its chairman and other members joined the ruling SPLM party.

A total of 1,634 individuals from the USAP, ANC, and SPLM-IO in Western Bahr El Ghazal State crossed over to the SPLM party.
