The transitional unity government has been tasked to clarify time frame for implementing the pending tasks of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.

Lony Ruot, a member of the Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce said the transitional government should provide clear timeline for the swift implementation of the recently extended roadmap.

“We want realistic timeframes which is also includes the resources, so that we will be able to monitor, we want them to provide clear and actionable timeline for the implementation of the recently extended peace roadmap,” said Ruot while briefing journalists during a workshop of civil society groups in Juba.

He urged the political leaders to summon the necessary political will to dialogue in order to resolve their outstanding differences.

Ruot called on the transitional government to allocate resources to the peace mechanisms, such as the constitutional-making process, national election commission, and the transitional justice mechanisms among others.

“The revitalized peace agreement is just a short-term arrangement to allow political processes to give chance for the people at the end of the interim period, to exercise their democratic right through free and fair and credible election,” he said.

Ruot called for speeding up the process of voter registration, voter education and civic awareness campaign ahead of the December 2026 elections, adding that elections will help resolve the persistent issues of governance in the country.

Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce members such as the South Sudan Network for Democracy and Election (SSUNDE), Organization for Non-Violence (ONAD), Standard Action Liaison Force (SALF) and South Sudan Democratic Engagement Monitoring & Observation Programme (SSUDEMOP) held on Thursday a three- day workshop to discuss the state of peace implementation in the country.
