The Federal Democratic Party (FDP) on Monday expelled it’s Secretary General, Changkuoth Bichiok, after finding him guilty of violating the party’s protocols.
Wazir Michael Liah, spokesperson for the Federal Democratic Party, said Changkuoth is accussed of insubordination, gross misconduct, and behavior that has jeopardized party unity and the FDP’s reputation.
“The public and all associated entities are advised not to engage with Changkuoth, regarding FDP matters, as he no longer holds any authority to represent the party in any capacity,” Michael said in a statement issued in Juba.
Michael said the expulsion of the official comes after a thorough review of his actions, which have consistently breached FDP principles and responsibilities entrusted to him.
He claimed Changkuoth consistently disregarded directives from the FDP Chairperson and National Leadership Council.
According to Michael, Changkuoth carried out activities that directly contradict the FDP’s code of ethics and commitment to integrity, tarnishing the FDP’s image in the process.
“He (Changkuoth) actively created discord among party members, fostering divisions that weakened the FDP’s solidarity. These actions threatened the FDP’s mission to work collaboratively for a stronger South Sudan,” he said.
For his part, the embattled FDP Secretary General Changkuoth Bichiock, said the letter expelling him from the party lacked specific evidence pinning him for allegedly violating the party’s constitution.
“All the five points that Changson Chan, cited as grounds for my expulsion are so general and lack specific incidents or action in which Hon. Changkuoth might have infringed the party constitution,” Changkuoth said in a statement issued on Monday.
He said the issue arose following his transfer from being Chairperson of the Finance Committee at the National Assembly to the Chairperson of the Committee on Energy and Dams.
Changkuoth said his Chairman, Changson Chan, ordered him to resign from the position of Chairperson of the Committee on Energy and Dams so that he can give the seat to his relative, who is currently a member of the Council of State.
