The cabinet approved on Friday $250,000 for a fundraising conference for sport activities in the country.

Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services told journalists that the initiative was proposed during cabinet meeting by Dr. Joseph Geng Akech, Minister of Youth and Sports.

“The cabinet listened to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Joseph Geng Akech, on the consolidated national team budget. This is a budget which he proposed for 2024 and this budget is to the sum of $9,080,000. This is for the financial year 2024-2025. This budget is meant to fund the Basketball National Teams for men and women, the Football National Teams for men and women, the Volleyball National Teams for men and women, and Athletics National Teams for men and women,” Makuei said during a media briefing after the cabinet meeting in Juba.

Makuei added that the funds are meant for sports national teams that will be participating in regional and international tournaments.

 The sports fundraising conference will be held from 26th to the 28th of November 2024 in Juba.

Makuei disclosed that approved funds by cabinet for the sports fundraising conference will enable the sports minister to invite stakeholders with the aim of raising over 9 million dollars to facilitate national sports teams.
