Juba County Legislative Council approved the 2024/25 budget amounting to 15.6 billion South Sudan.

Speaking to the media after passing the budget on Wednesday, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, the Commissioner of Juba County called the passage of the budget a major milestone, adding that this was the highest budget figure to be approved by the County

Tete acknowledged the challenges that the County has faced, including financial struggles and inadequate resources, but emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in overcoming these obstacles.

“This is the first time such an agreement has been reached in Juba County, and it sets a positive example for the rest of the country,” Tete said.

He noted that the County will end sending officials abroad for medical treatment, underscoring the importance of self-sufficiency.

“It is wrong to send councilors outside the country for medication or allocate the sum of 5,000 U.S dollars for individuals as medical allowance; what we need is to provide the medical insurance because if we said we will allocate the money for medical services, people will pretend to be sick just to get the money,” Tete said.

For his part, Speaker of Juba County Legislative Council, Daniel Jada Marcello, expressed his happiness after the budget was approved, highlighting its significance for the County’s development.

“Today, we are pleased to announce the 2024/25 budget. This budget will facilitate the operational activities of Juba County, and address a range of needs from security to basic services,” Marcello said.

He disclosed that the budget will help address critical issues such as insecurity, land grabbing, and poor service delivery.

The cooperation between the legislative and executive branches of the County has been crucial to this achievement, said Marcello.
