Members of the Federal Democratic Party (FDP) loyal to the Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Gabriel Changson Chang, on Saturday rejected his expulsion from the party.
On 28th November, Changkuoth Bichiock Reth, former party Secretary General deposed Gabriel Changson Chang from the chairmanship and declared himself the new party interim chairperson.
Changson was expelled last week from the party at a meeting of the National Leadership Council in Juba.
This followed the decision by Changson to oust Changkuoth Bichiock from his position on 3rd November.
Bichiok was accused by loyalists of Changson of insubordination, gross misconduct and sowing divisions within the party.
Gai Duop Wur, FDP Secretary General, said on Saturday that the faction led by Bichiock is illegal and does not have the right to depose Changson.
“The claim by former Secretary General Changkuoth Bichiock, that there has been the support from states and administrative areas is completely baseless and unfounded,” Duop told journalists at a press conference.
He described the declaration of the former Secretary General as ‘last kick of a dying horse’.
“The FDP is a great party and will not be shaken by the declaration of four persons. Their declaration will be short leave and represents the last kick of a dying horse,” said Duop.
“I call upon all members from the states, administrative areas and all offices and charters from foreign countries not to bother themselves with declaration of the defection of former FDP members on the 5th and 28 November 2024,” he added.
Meanwhile, Wazir Michael Liah, the party’s spokesperson, said Bichiok does not have support from party members in the states and in the diaspora.
He added that Bichiok was also dismissed by the party from parliament where he held a seat.
