Juba County authorities have confirmed the arrest of seven suspected land grabbers who armed with guns and hoes in Bilinyang Boma.
The arrests followed reports of forced evictions earlier this week.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon explained that the suspects had allegedly coerced residents, including the sub-chief of Bilinyang Boma, to abandon their homes in Garbur Village, located in Mangala Payam.
He said that the actions of these individuals are part of a broader pattern of criminal activity that has plagued the area in recent months.
“This area has been plagued by criminal activities recently. In a short span, we have recorded three deaths, including that of a national security officer and three others injured. The suspects, armed with guns, are believed to be responsible for these killings and looting incidents,” Ezbon stated.
He called for an in-depth investigation into the suspects, emphasizing the importance of uncovering their networks and determining how they acquired their weapons.
“These criminals must face justice. The government must act decisively to ensure no one threatens the security of the state,” said Ezbon.
Acting Police Commissioner of Juba County, Zakayo Ladu Laku, confirmed that the suspects are now in custody and assured the public that investigations are underway.
“We are committed to conducting a comprehensive investigation and ensuring the suspects face trial to deliver justice,” said Ladu.
The sub-chief of Bilinyang Boma, Andrea Benjamin Gore, narrated that the suspects arrived early in the morning and threatened residents in the area.
“These individuals monitor vacant buildings and intimidate the community. They are land grabbers, and their actions must be stopped,” he said.
Land grabbing has become a persistent issue in Juba County. Authorities have pledged to strengthen measures to address these crimes and protect the rights of bonafide land occupants.
