The First Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, has urged all national universities and higher institutions of learning in the country to consider introducing course in security studies to the public so as to equip the interested citizens with the required knowledge in the sector.
The statement written on the Facebook page of the First vice President Press unit, urged the institutions concerned to prepare the new security documents for tabling before the national Council of Ministers and then the Revitalized Transitional National Legislature for endorsement and final passing into law.
Machar made these on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the three-day security conference in Juba, on behalf of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The security gathering brought together policy makers and security mechanisms from the various security organs in the nation.
Representatives from regional and international bodies such as UNMISS, IGAD and AU also participated in the conference.
After the deliberations, the conference produced three new documents, namely: White Paper On Defense and Security; Revised Defense Policy; and Security Policy Framework.
Machar congratulated all the participants who deliberated intensively for the past three days as well as organisers of the conference for making it a success, adding that it will pave a way to establish vibrant security sector institutions in the country.
Participants also appreciated Hon. Minister Angelina Teny, the current Chairperson of Strategic Defence and Security Review Board, and the Co-chair, Hon Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Chol Thon Balok, for organising the conference.
The conference aims at transforming the security sector institutions in South Sudan and serves as a milestone for transition to democracy, good governance and the rule of law in the young nation.
