The World Food Programme (WFP) is working to see that by 2030 communities are able to feed themselves and also able to overcome climatic shocks and conflict induced shocks.
The majority of South Sudan’s population continues to depend on humanitarian assistance, and this is expected to continue in the leans season in 2025 as articulated in the latest IPC released by UN agencies.
The IPC disclosed that 7.7 million people will face acute food insecurity next year compared to 7.1 million this year.
The WFP resilience strategy aims to build resilience among communities particularly in the Greater Upper Nile and parts Greater Bahr El Ghazal region, which are prone to climatic shocks and conflicts.
The resilience strategy targets to shift from provision of food assistance at the payam level to building resilience, where communities grow their own food which they are able to sell in markets to earn income.
This strategy also involves building the capacity of government, national institutions and relevant academic institutions to be bale to sustain the strategy in the longer-term.
The government has stake in ensuring the successful implementation of the WFP 2025-2030 resileince strategy to ensure food security in the country.
