The newly appointed Undersecretary in the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, has promised to foster positive working relationships with war veterans.
“I want to tell you there is no good or bad workplace, the places we have been through, you all know. There is no place which is bad for me,” Wol said during his reception in Juba on Friday.
Wol promised to give listening ears to war veterans in order to address their challenges.
“Today is the day for taking over from Atak and we will sit in the office and thereafter, we shall start administrative matters,” he said.
“We shall start with senior officers, and commanders present here and from there, we shall listen to you. There is nothing new I am coming with from outside, I will work with what you tell me,” Wol disclosed.
For his part, Gen. Paul Nang Majok, the new Chief of Defense Forces promised to support Wol to achieve his mission.
“I know he has many programs including setting up a farm for war veterans, I will sit with them and I am going to support his idea,” said Nang.
“Instead of staying here in Juba, it is better we go back to the villages, and we set up our farms and send our wounded heroes with their salaries there to farm and we set up schools for their children and hospitals,” he said
Meanwhile, Atak Santino Majak, the outgoing Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit for replacing him with Gen. Santino Deng Wol.
“Let us all thank the country leadership for the wise decision it has made, uncle Santino is someone who has wide experience especially in this field. He knows all the wounded veterans, where and when they got wounded,” said Majak.
On December 9, 2024, President Salva Kiir Mayardit relieved Gen. Santino Deng Wol as Chief of Defense Forces and replaced him with Gen. Paul Nang Majok.
