The Project Manager of Amref Health Africa South Sudan,Modong Manuela Mogga, has appealed to partners, the Juba City Council and all stakeholders involved in waste management to support efforts to address the dire waste situation at Juba Teaching Hospital.
This call comes at amid cholera outbreak being declared in Juba and other parts of the country.
“The issue of waste is a challenge in South Sudan particularly in Juba. It is the same in health facilities,” said Mogga on Friday at Juba Teaching Hospital during the two-day cleaning campaign supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Mogga emphasized that support can come in various forms be it financial or material resources so long as it helps implement proper waste management systems including waste segregation.
He disclosed that once this is realized it would ensure the main referral hospital’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services in a clean and safe environment.
She also said that water accessibility remains a critical factor in improving health outcomes.
Mogga emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing waste management, adding that it is necessary to ensure a healthier and safer environment for all.
“The initiative underscored the hospital’s commitment to improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes while fostering partnerships to advance healthcare delivery,” she said. The two-day cleaning and open-day event was organized by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Juba Teaching Hospital with support from Amref Health Africa, UNFPA and the Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians in South Sudan.
