Communities from Warrap and Lakes State have agreed on several resolutions to end cross-border cattle raids and revenge killings.

The resolutions reached at the four-day meeting in Rumbek town, demonstrate the forward think and pragmatic approach to end decades of violence and insecurity along the border of the two States.

The agreement also calls for justice and compensation for communities on both sides. This aspect will go a long way in ending tit-for-tat cattle raids and killings.

These two communities have a history of inter-marriage and this courage from the leaders of the two States is commendable. Violence begets violence, as the saying goes, and now is the time to seize the moment to implement this landmark deal so that both communities enjoy lasting peace.

The two pastoralist communities have for long been clashing over water points and grazing pastures, and some of these critical issues are catered for in the resolutions.

The leadership of the two communities must now walk the talk of ensuring  peace and security prevails among their people.
