Army registers two fatalities, injuries during Christmas period

The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) registered two fatalities including a killing of a butcher by a colleague on December 25, 2024.

Maj.Gen Lul Ruai Koang, the spokesperson for SSPDF said the army has registered two deaths, two injuries and a case of robbery at Rajef roundabout in Juba.

“On Christmas day, December 25, there was only one incident registered in sector three, and it was involving a fight between two butchers, and as a result, one person was stabbed with a knife and died from that incident,” said Koang on Tuesday during press conference at the police headquarters in Juba.

Koang revealed that the culprit who killed his colleague with a knife was arrested, adding that three other incidences include, shooting of a civilian by a soldier in sector five at Hai Baraka residential area.

“We had a private Sabir Nader Alphonse who shot and wounded a civilian named Marlo Suleiman. It happened at around 4.45 p.m. The culprit was arrested. On the same day, there was a dead person identified as Mr. Ndeye Ndeye Makok. He was found dead,” he disclosed.

He also said that a Regimental Sergeant Major, Makera. E shot a civilian in the hand along Rajab highway, adding that the culprit was arrested, and the civilian was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Koang added that the army also registered an incident at Rajab Roundabout where a person named Sara Melissa was shot and wounded in the leg, and she was robbed of 2 million South Sudan Pounds by the attackers who fled the scene.

“There was a reminder on the need for the joint security forces to respect diplomatic missions, to respect diplomatic personnel, their residences, and their equipment, that they should not be searched, any violation, of course, will result in taking offensive measures against those involved,” he said.
