"We Dare where others fear"

By Simon Deng
The former Archbishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Daniel Deng Bul Yak has urged South Sudanese to embrace peace and unity across the country as the country enters new year.
“Let us unite our country, there is no need to spread disagreement among the people, there is no need for discrimination, hatred and disunity, we must preach peace across the country,” said Yak on Wednesday while preaching on new year day at St. Peters Parish in Juba.
Yak revealed that it is time for the people and as well the leaders of South Sudan to embrace peaceful coexistence among the communities, adding that it is time to embark on developmental program.
“There is no reason to destroy the country after liberation, the country was liberated because people were united, it would have been extremely difficult to liberate the country without the unity of the people of South Sudan,” he said.
South Sudan is mired in intercommunal violence particularly border disputes, cattle rustling and clashes fueled by community based militias and civil defense groups which remain the primary source of subnational violence across the country
In an effort to bring peace, the transitional government of national unity is expected to resume talks under the Tumaini initiative in mid-January 2025 with the hold-out groups that did not sign the 2018 revitalized peace agreement including Real Sudan People Liberation Movement led by Pagan Amum Okiech.
