The Governor of Lakes State, Rin Tueny Mabor, has outlined realizing peace, unity and food security among his top priorities in 2025.
Mabor said in his New Year message, that agriculture should be the main driver of wealth creation and improved food security in the State, which remains among the most food insecure, according to consecutive Integrated Food Classification Reports issued by UN agencies over the past years.
“The birth of Jesus Christ was well celebrated peacefully and the New Year should also be welcomed and commemorated in peace. People are moving on in the State with their daily businesses without fear,” said Mabor during an interview with the Dawn on Tuesday in Rumbek.
Mabor also reminded the civil population of Rumbek North and Cueibet Counties to improve their working relation with communities of Luacjang of Tonj East, Jalwau of Tonj South in neighboring Warrap State.
He noted that the resolutions at the recent peace conference, attended by leaders of communities from the two States should be implemented starting this year.
Mabor also said that health authorities recorded some cholera cases in Yirol West, Yirol East and Awerial Counties, adding some deaths have been recorded which he did not disclose in details.
