Government reiterates commitment to inclusive talks in Nairobi

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, has reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusivity during the Tumani peace talks that are set to resume on January 6, 2025.

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, has reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusivity during the Tumani peace talks that are set to resume on January 6, 2025.

Lomuro said in a statement posted on the Facebook page of the presidential press unit, that they want all armed groups to take part in this round of the talks in order to achieve comprehensive peace agreement.

This followed an extraordinary meeting of the presidency on Friday to discuss the progress made so far by the Tumaini peace initiative since the start of the talks in May 2024.

Lomuro said the positive outcome of the Tumaini initiative is important for durable peace and stability of the country as it will conform to the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.

He said the resumption of the talks represent a new resolve for peace, amidst optimism from the leaders that the talks might usher in a more stable and united South Sudan.

Lomuro said that the presidency meeting also focused on the challenges faced during the past round of talks, adding that the mediators have asked the government negotiating team to go back to Nairobi for the final round of talks.
