The National Ministry of Interior has directed all citizens with expired driving license to renew to ensure compliance with the law and maintain the validity of their driving credentials.
“The Office of the Deputy Minister is hereby, notifying all individuals whose driving license has expired to proceed with the renewal process as specified in accordance with relevant legislation, this notification is particularly directed toward those whose license has elapsed, irrespective of whether the initial duration was 1, 3 or 5 years,” said Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial , Spokesperson for South Sudan National Police Service said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the Traffic Act of 2003, Chapter 4, Section 31.4, clearly articulates that driving licenses shall be valid until they expire, at which point they must be renewed upon presentation to the License Authority along with the requisite fee.
He added that a driving license that is issued or renewed shall be deemed valid for a period of 12 months, 3 years or 5 years from the date of issuance of renewal, as determined by the holder.
“It is imperative for all license holders to adhere to this directive, to ensure compliance with the law and maintain the validity of their driving credentials. The renewal process is critical not only for legal driving privileges, but also for the safety and regulation within the transport sector,” he disclosed.
He encourages all affected individuals to take prompt action to avoid any potential legal repercussions associated with driving on expired license.
“Further enquiry regarding to the renewal procedures can be directed to the relevant licensing authorities,” he said.
