The Mayor of Juba City Council, Johnson Swaka, issued on Tuesday an order banning street vendors along the roads and open spaces in Juba City.
“All vendors dealing with sale of food along the streets and open spaces by night and day time in Juba City Council are completely banned, all vendors are not allowed to run any business along the streets of Juba City Council,” said Swaka in a statement.
Swaka said that shop owners along the main roads are directed to monitor individuals who dump the waste in the streets, adding that businesses must clean and paint their shops with the designated color.
Swaka also directed local brewery places to close their business immediately and also urged local restaurant owners in the markets to keep their places clean.
He directed the chief executive officer, the block directors, public health and environmental officers, and the security apparatus, the quarter council to implement the order.
Swaka also revealed that failure to paint shops and as well to monitor dumping of waste will necessitate a fine of not less than 1,500,000 SSP or closure of the shop and withdrawal of the trading license.
“Selling food on the streets and open spaces by day and night shall be fined not less than 1,000,000 South Sudan Pounds (SSP), local brewery shall be fined not less than 500,000 SSP and running business along the streets a fine of not less than 1,000,000 SSP,” he said.
