The recent move by the Juba County to demarcate the Jopa suburb of Juba city has brought joy and relief to many families residing in the area.
Majority of residents had lived for years in the area without proper land documents. This situation was exploited by land grabbers.
Juba city is mired in unending cases of land grabbing involving powerful people in this country. This has left the poor in a difficult situation because many of them don’t have land titles.
The County authorities and other local government elsewhere in the country need to emphasize the importance of acquiring land titles.
The process of acquiring land titles should be made less costly. In addition, the concerned authorities should remove the unnecessary red tape in the process of acquiring land title deeds.
The other very important thing is to clean up the mess in the land registry. Many people have been evicted on their lands due to issuance of land titles for the same plot to various people.
