The United Nation Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has urged members of the Mundari community to unite in order to promote peace and development in Terekeka County.

“We remain committed to ensuring that all the Mundari people are together. We support you in all of the activities to bring peaceful coexistence among the Mundari people. We hope in the future we are properly aware so that we can contribute to this occasion,” said Victor Fasama, the Acting Head of the UNMISS Field Office in Central Equatoria State.

He was speaking on Saturday, last week during the annual Mundari cultural festival held in Terekeka County.

Fasama revealed that UNMISS remains ready to support the 2026 Mundari cultural festival following the successful second edition held this year.

Several communities including, Nuer, Bari, Kuku and Acholi attended and participated at the cultural gala.

Fasama said the cultural festival plays important role in promoting social cohesion among the people of South Sudan.

In 2022, conflict erupted within sections of the Mundari community which threaten to divide the community.

The various sections of the Mundari community held dialogue with support of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) which reconciled the community.

More than 300 stakeholders including church leaders, traditional chiefs, and intellectuals, County Commissioners, women and youth leaders attended the cultural festival.
