MTN South Sudan on Monday donated 300,000 U.S dollars to the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) to run the premier league.
Agustino Maduot, SSFA President said the support from the mobile telecom giant ushers in a new exciting new era in football league.
“This premier league represents not just sports but a unifying force for our nation. Football promotes professionalism among players and fosters a sense of unity, bringing together different nations as one family,” said Maduot.
The South Sudan premier league featuring 14 clubs started on December 2, 2024.
Madout encouraged MTN South Sudan and the SSFA to collaborate continuously to elevate sports, adding that the manifold benefits of sports include holding the spirit of teamwork, health and unity.
Ali Monzer, Chief Executive Officer for MTN South Sudan said his company is advocating for more sports teams to join the premier league in order to enrich the country’s sporting landscape.
“This substantial investment marks a pivotal moment in South Sudan’s sporting history, fueling hopes for a thriving football culture that could inspire unity and excellence across the nation,” said Monzer.
He added that MTN is committed to supporting SSFA in promoting sports in South Sudan, and reinforcing it’s identity as a leading African telecommunications network
