The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) has demanded that the whereabouts of Emmanuel Monychol, the Editor- in- Chief of The Dawn Newspaper be announced and legal action taken if he has a case to answer before the law.

Headed, “UJOSS Demands Habeas Corpus of Emmanuel Monychol Akop,” the journalists’ body said Monychol disappeared in a case of “kidnap” on November 28, last year.

“Emmanuel Monychol was kidnapped by unknown persons whom UJOSS suspects to be members of the National Security Service on November 28th 2024 and up to now, no one knows where Monychol is,” the union said in a statement issued yesterday by the President, Oyet Patrick Charles.

“UJOSS thus, demands that the state (South Sudan) produces Monychol, if he is suspected of any crime, he should be produced before the court of law,” it said.

UJOSS expressed concern over the issue, noting it remains steadfast in working with all agencies in the country to ensure mutual understanding for development of the media sector in South Sudan while noting that it maintains its mandate of promotion of professionalism, welfare, protection and safety of journalists.
