More than 90,000 households in Mabior Abiom Payam of Jur River County in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have received humanitarian assistance following heavy flooding in the area.

The humanitarian assistance provided by President Salva Kiir Mayardit through Kamsur National Company, was distributed earlier this week to families.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Coordinator of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Jur River County, Gabriel Longar Majok, described the assistance as a significant milestone that will aid the community’s recovery.

“This is the first time our people have received aid since the crisis began,” said Longar.

The aid included essential non-food items such as blankets, mosquito nets, and plastic sheets, which are crucial for the affected households.

“These items are vital for the most vulnerable, especially pregnant women, elderly individuals, and young children,” said Longar.

He expressed gratitude for the delivery but emphasized the need for continued support.

“Although this assistance is limited, it’s better than nothing. We hope more will come to ensure everyone in need is reached,” said Longar.

He highlighted that the County, with over 300,000 people, has faced immense challenges due to floods and communal conflicts. Many homes were destroyed, leaving families in dire conditions.

“The support we received today gives hope to our community, and we pray that more assistance will arrive soon,” said Longar.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kamsur National Company, Chris Mariano Pasiko, encouraged the local community to engage in agricultural activities to rebuild their livelihoods.

Pasiko pledged to provide improved seeds and farming equipment to support sustainable recovery efforts.

“This is just the beginning. We are committed to helping this community recover and thrive,” he said.

Early this year, the company distributed humanitarian assistance to parts of Warrap State and similar relief efforts are planned for other flood-affected areas, including Turkueng in Jur River County and Tonj South County in Warrap State.

The distribution marks a crucial step in addressing the immediate needs of flood victims while fostering long-term resilience.
